The radiator of the Oldsmobile Alero is located directly behind the front grill and can be removed in about 30 minutes. The plastic tanks that are used on the Alero can be susceptible to cracking in extreme weather conditions. Occasionally, the radiator of the Alero can get clogged up or become damaged to the point that it needs to be replaced. You can save time and money by removing the radiator yourself.

Instructions

    1

Unfasten the negative battery cable of the Oldsmobile Alero from the battery post with an open-end wrench. Take the radiator cap off the top of the radiator, which is just behind the Alero front grill.

    2

Remove the cap off the coolant overflow reservoir on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Detach the rubber hose from the radiator that leads to the coolant overflow tank.

    3

Place a drain pan under the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side of the engine. Open the drain valve with a pair of pliers and let the radiator drain completely.

    4

Loosen the hose clamp on the lower radiator hose with a screwdriver and remove the hose from the lower radiator flange. Unfasten the hose clamp on the upper radiator hose with the screwdriver and take the hose off the radiator flange.

    5

Detach the cooling fan shroud mounts from the vehicle frame with a socket wrench. Unfasten the radiator mounts from the vehicle frame at the top of the radiator with a socket wrench.

    6

Lift the radiator straight up out of the Alero engine compartment and set it out of the way.
