The 1990 model year began the fourth generation of the Accord and also marked a drastic restyling of the mid-sized vehicle. Honda dropped the pop-up style headlights and increased its overall size. The 1991 Accord came fitted with an AM-FM-cassette stereo system. When replacing the radio in the 1991 Honda Accord, you only need to remove the ashtray and its frame. This makes for a relatively quick removal and installation of the radio.

Instructions

Removing the Radio on the 1991 Accord

    1

Loosen the negative battery cable with a combination wrench and pull the battery cable from the battery.

    2

Open the ashtray by pulling it outward. Press the metal tab inside the ashtray to unlock it and pull the ashtray from its frame.

    3

Remove the three ashtray frame-retaining screws -- two on the front and one on the rear -- using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the ashtray frame from the underside of the dashboard.

    4

Look through the opening where the ashtray frame was and find the two radio-retaining bolts -- located on the rear, underside of the radio. Remove the radio-retaining bolts with a ratchet, socket and 6-inch extension.

    5

Pull the radio outward until you can access the wiring on the rear of the radio. Unplug the 16-pin wiring harness from the rear of the radio by pressing the locking button and pulling it from the radio. Pull the antenna wire -- the thick, black wire -- from the rear of the radio. Remove the radio from the Accord.
