The process of adding radiator fluid or coolant to your vehicle depends on the vehicle's age. In most older models, you will need to add the radiator fluid directly into the radiator. On newer models you will add coolant to the coolant reservoir rather than directly to the radiator. Before you begin you should familiarize yourself with your engine and owner's manual so you know where to add the coolant.
Instructions
- 1
Open the hood. Make sure the hood is properly propped open so it will not slam closed while you are working.
2Remove the radiator cap or coolant reservoir cap while wearing your work gloves or using a rag to keep your hands clean and free from harm.
3Insert the funnel into the reservoir or radiator. If you feel that you can pour the coolant without spilling or overflowing without a funnel you do not have to use one. Fill your coolant reservoir or radiator with radiator fluid or coolant until the fluid reaches the max fill line. If your coolant reservoir is dirty on the outside of the container, you might need to wipe it down to properly see the line. This should be done before you begin filling the reservoir.
4Remove the funnel and replace the coolant reservoir or radiator cap. Close the hood of your vehicle and properly dispose of your dirty rags, gloves and the coolant bottle.
