The blower motor on a 1998 Toyota Camry is on the passenger side under the dash, in line with the glove compartment. If the blower motor fails to operate at any speed and it is getting power, it is likely that it has failed. If the blower motor operates on one or more speeds and not on others, the blower motor resister is the most common of possible problems.

Instructions

Removal

    1

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a wrench as a precaution, because a SIR air bag connector is directly above the glove box. Remove the glove box. This is a matter of preference, since the blower motor can be accessed from under the dash if you dont mind bending to get to it. It is installed from the bottom of the HVAC case directly behind the glove box. To remove the box, remove the Phillips screw under the glove box door on the left side. Remove the 10 mm bolt on the right side below the door, using a socket driver.

    2

Open the glove box door and remove the Phillips screw on both sides of the top of the glove box. Place some cloth on a flat-head screwdriver and insert it near the center top of the glove box insert. Pry down slightly and simultaneously pull the glove box out. As the box is being pulled out, look for a yellow SIR wire above the box. If it is attached to the box with a fastener, remove the fastener but do not unplug the yellow wire connector.

    3

Unplug the blower motor. Remove the screws securing the blower motor to the HVAC case using a socket driver. The screws are installed vertically around the diameter of the blower motor. Lower the motor out of the HVAC case.

Installation

    4

Insert the blower motor into the case, making sure that the electrical plug is in the same position and the centering pin on the case engages the hole in the perimeter of the blower motor. Install the screws.

    5

Plug the electrical connector into the motor. Place the yellow SIR wire above the glove box. Insert the glove box and install the screws and bolt.

    6

Connect the negative battery cable and tighten with a wrench.
