Whether you have a camper shell or a hatchback SUV, chances are good there are gas props installed that assist with the opening. These support props contain a slim piston driven by compressed gas. If the camper or hatchback door seems to sag lower than usual, it's probably because the rubber seal that holds the compressed air in, has become worn and allowed leakage. When these gas props become worn like this, they have to be replaced.
Instructions
- 1
Open the camper window or rear hatchback.
2Remove the base of the gas prop attached to the window or hatchback on the left-hand side with the screwdriver.
3Remove the base of the gas prop attached to the frame of the vehicle on the left-hand side with the socket set.
4Set the base of the gas prop against the frame of the vehicle and install the mounting bolts with the socket set.
5Position the end of the gas prop against the window of the camper or the hatchback, and fasten the retaining screw with the screwdriver.
6Repeat the above steps to install the new prop on the right-hand side.
