Rotors on a Ford F-250 are an integral part of the brake system. The rotors mount on the hubs and turn freely as long as the brakes aren't applied, allowing the wheels to turn with them. When you hit the brakes, the brake pads grab the rotors and stop them from turning, which halts the F-250. Every time this happens, the rotors heat up a bit and if the pads are in contact with the rotors for too long, this heat can cause warpage in the rotors, necessitating replacement. Anyone with a solid auto-repair skill can change the rotors on a Ford F-250 in a matter of hours.

Instructions

    1

Loosen the F-250's front lug nuts by rotating them counterclockwise with the lug wrench. Apply the wheel chocks to the front and back of one of the rear tires to hold the truck steady.

    2

Lift the F-250's front end with the floor jack. Support the front end on two jack stands, placed under the front frame. Remove the F-250's front lug nuts and wheels by hand and set them aside.

    3

Place the drain pan under the F-250's left-front brake assembly, exposed when you removed the wheel. Wash off the rotor and caliper with brake cleaner.

    4

Remove the two caliper bolts with your socket set. Pull the caliper off the rotor by hand and set it in the front suspension so it doesn't hang from the brake line.

    5

Slip the left-front rotor off by hand and discard it. Slide the new rotor onto the hub in its place. Lower the caliper over the rotor and bolt it back in with the socket set.

    6

Move to the opposite side of the truck and repeat steps three through five. Lower the F-250 off the jack stands using your floor jack. Tighten all the lug nuts to 140 ft.-lbs. with a torque wrench and move the wheel chocks before driving.
