In 1999, Chevrolet began phasing out the C- and K-series of trucks. The replacement for these trucks had a familiar name, Silverado. The Silverado name was the highest trim level of C- and K-series trucks from 1975 through 1998. The 2003 Silverado came in three different load ratings: 1500, 2500 and 3500. All three sizes had nearly identical styling, including the headlights, turn signals and taillights. Replacing the front parking light bulb in the 2003 Silverado involves removal of the headlight assembly and turn signal assembly.

Instructions

    1

Open the Silverado's hood and look on top of the headlight assembly. Take note of whether your truck has one horizontal or two vertical metal pins securing the assembly.

    2

Turn the outer pin outward and the inner pin inward, then pull both pins from the headlight, if equipped with the two-pin system. Twist the single pin upward to unlock it and pull it from the top of the headlight, if fitted with the single-pin system.

    3

Grab the headlight assembly and pull it straight out of the front of the Silverado. Place the headlight assembly out of the way, but leave the headlight sockets plugged in.

    4

Reach behind the turn signal assembly and locate the retaining clip toward the outside edge. Push this clip to free the assembly and pull it from the Silverado.

    5

Look on the rear of the turn signal assembly to locate the bulb sockets. Press the locking tab on the outermost light socket -- the parking light socket -- and twist the socket counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the socket and bulb from the turn signal assembly.

    6

Grab the parking light bulb and pull it from the socket with a slight wiggling motion. Grab a new 194 light bulb, using a clean, lint-free cloth, and press it into the socket. Touching the bulb with your bare hands may lead to premature bulb failure.

    7

Insert the socket and new bulb in the turn signal assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it into place.

    8

Set the turn signal assembly back on the front of the Silverado. Insert the hooks on the inner part of the assembly into the holes on the front of the Silverado. Press the outer part of the taillight assembly into the front of the truck until it clicks into place.

    9

Set the headlight back in place on the front of the Silverado, lining up the pin holes on the headlight with those on the truck. On a single-pin system, press the pin through the pin holes and press it downward to lock it in place. On a two-pin system, insert both pins and turn the outer pin inward and the inner pin outward to lock them into place.

    10

    Close the Silverado's hood.
