In 1981, Dodge officially changed the name of its full-sized pickup truck to "Ram." In 1994, Dodge redesigned the Ram 1500 and gave it a "big-rig" look, setting it apart from other pickups. The 2001 model had rectangular, fender-mounted headlights -- like a big-rig -- and vertical taillights with rounded edges. Only small retaining clips and two screws held these taillight assemblies in place. This made for quick replacement of the taillight lens, which Dodge only offers as part of the entire taillight assembly.
Instructions
- 1
Disconnect the negative battery cable, using a combination wrench. Set the cable to the side of the battery to prevent accidental reconnection.
2Open the Ram 1500's tailgate and locate the two screws that hold the taillight assembly to the tailgate jamb. Remove these bolts with a Phillips screwdriver.
3Grab the taillight assembly and pull it from the rear of the truck.
4Twist the sockets on the rear of the taillight assembly counterclockwise to unlock them, then pull the sockets and bulbs from the taillight assembly.
5Insert the bulbs and sockets in the rear of the new taillight assembly and twist them clockwise to lock them into place.
6Set the taillight assembly on the rear of the Ram, lining up the retaining studs on the rear of the taillight assembly with the retaining clips on the truck's body. Press the taillight assembly into place and tighten the two screws in the tailgate jamb.
7Close the Ram's tailgate.
8Reconnect the negative battery cable and tighten it with a combination wrench.
