Windshield wipers on the 2001 Ford Taurus that no longer function properly may need to be removed for replacement. Wiper arms are spring-loaded to keep the correct tension on the rubber blade against the surface of the windshield. A weak or broken spring may cause streaking or skipping, necessitating removal of the arm for repair or replacement. Worn wiper blades can be replaced without removing the wiper arms in just a few minutes.

Instructions

Wiper Arms

    1

Note the position of the wiper blade on the windshield.

    2

Lift the wiper arm off the windshield until it locks into the service position.

    3

Pull out on the release tab at the base of the wiper.

    4

Lift the wiper arm assembly off the spindle and remove it from the vehicle.

    5

Replace the wiper arm by lifting the release tab and pushing the base of the arm over the splined spindle. Ensure the blade is positioned in the same location on the windshield as before removal.

Wiper Blades

    6

Lift the wiper arm off the windshield until it locks into the service position.

    7

Rotate the wiper blade so that it is perpendicular to the wiper arm.

    8

Depress the release tab located at the center of the blade where it attaches to the wiper arm.

    9

Push down on the blade assembly away from the looped end of the wiper arm until it detaches. Slide the blade over slightly, then lift it straight up and off of the arm.

    10

Line up the locking mechanism of a replacement blade over the looped end of the wiper arm. Push the blade into the arm until it snaps into place. Push the wiper arm back against the windshield.
