The ball joints, the connectors between the steering of your vehicle and the wheels themselves, are situated underneath your vehicle between the lower control arm and the steering knuckle. If the ball joints on your 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo are damaged, replace them immediately to prevent any accidents from occurring due to you inability to properly steer the vehicle. Ball joint replacement for your 1995 Monte Carlo should only take one hour.

Instructions

    1

Place a jack under the Monte Carlo and raise it up. Support the Monte Carlo's front end with jack stands.

    2

Position a floor jack underneath the lower control arm of the Monte Carlo for support.

    3

Remove the wheel nuts with a wheel wrench and remove the front wheels.

    4

Remove the lower stud cotter pin with a pair of pliers. Loosen the ball stud nut with a socket wrench.

    5

Loosen the ball joint from the steering knuckle and lower control arm with a ball joint fork.

    6

Remove the ball stud nut with a socket wrench. Install a spring compressor onto the coil spring. This is very important. If you do not install a spring compressor, the spring can shoot out and seriously injure you or damage your Monte Carlo.

    7

Remove the bolts from the brake disc on the steering knuckle and remove the brake disc. Remove the two bolts from the ball joint with a socket wrench. Use a ball joint fork to remove the ball joint.

    8

Attach the replacement ball joint and its two bolts. Reattach the brake disc.

    9

Remove the spring compressor and reattach the ball stud nut. Reattach the cotter pin.

    10

Reattach the wheels, remove the jack stands and floor jack, and lower the Monte Carlo to the ground.
