A topper for a Chevrolet El Camino provides a dry area to carry things and gives the vehicle a different look. The El Camino only seats two people, as it has only a front seat. If you need to carry anything and have a passenger, you have no choice but to use the rear bed. Toppers can be screwed onto the bed or clamped onto the bed. It is always better to use the clamps, so you do not destroy the bed rails, especially if you show the El Camino without the topper.
Instructions
- 1
Install the two-sided topper tape on the side and front bed rails. Ensure that the tape is centered on the rails.
2Lift the topper over the bed --- you will need at least one helper, depending on your strength --- three helpers give you more control. Lower the topper to the bed, but do not set it on the tape yet.
3Make sure the front of the topper is lining up with the front rail, in the center of the tape. Adjust the position until the topper is directly over the side rails in the center of the tape. Lower the topper onto the tape. The tape keeps the topper from rubbing on the rails and protects the paint.
4Install three C-clamps on each side of the bed inside the topper. Tighten the clamps firmly, using the socket, but do not overtighten them, as you could warp the topper and the bed rails.
5After driving the first 100 miles, check the clamps to ensure they did not vibrate loose. Tighten as needed.
