The 2001 Chevrolet S-10 was available in nine different sub-models. The base model 2001 S-10 was equipped with two different engines; a 2.2-liter in-line four-cylinder, and a 4.3-liter V-6. The blower motors controls the circulation of air through the ventilation system and the cabin of the 2001 S-10. The C42, C60 and C68 were the three types of blower motors on the 2001 S-10. The replacement instructions for all three motors are the same.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood on the S-10. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, using a ratchet and socket. Tuck the battery cable to the side of the battery to ensure there is no chance of accidental contact during this procedure.

    2

Remove the locking bar from the top of the engine control computer, which is on a bracket on top of the coolant reservoir. Remove the computer from the bracket on the reservoir and set the computer onto the upper radiator core support. Do not disconnect the electrical connector from the computer.

    3

Remove the three coolant reservoir retaining nuts from the base of the reservoir, using a ratchet, socket and extension. Pull the reservoir forward against the rear of the radiator to give you clear access to the blower motor.

    4

Remove the electrical connector from the blower motor. Remove the cooling tube from the motor. Remove the mounting screws from the motor, using a ratchet and socket. Pull the motor horizontally out of the firewall and set it out of your work area.

    5

Install the new blower motor into the firewall and tighten the mounting screws to 40 inch-pounds with a torque wrench and socket. Install the electrical connector onto the new motor by hand, then the blower motor cooling tube.

    6

Install the coolant reservoir back into position on the fender. Install the three mounting nuts, and tighten them between 6 and 8 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench, socket and extension. Install the engine control module on the bracket on top of the reservoir. Push the locking bar onto the control module to lock it into place.

    7

Install the battery cable onto the battery, and tighten it snug with a ratchet and socket.
