In the 1994 model year, Dodge redesigned the Ram to give it the look of a "big rig." In 2002, Dodge tweaked the design, giving the Ram a more modern look, but retained the basic styling. The 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 came standard with a 215-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 engine. It also came standard with air conditioning. The air conditioning and heating system utilized a plastic fan, powered by an electric motor to circulate the cooled or heated air through the Ram. Replacing the blower motor requires only basic tools and little time.
Instructions
- 1
Loosen the negative battery cable, using a combination wrench, and pull the cable from the battery. Position the cable away from the battery to avoid accidental connection.
2Position the passenger's seat as far back as it will go. Look under the passenger's side of the dashboard and locate the blower motor mounted to the heating and air conditioning box behind the dashboard.
3Unplug the wiring harness from the blower motor by pressing the locking button and pulling it from the motor. Remove the wiring from the two plastic wire routing clips on the blower motor and position the wiring harness aside.
4Remove the three bolts holding the blower motor to the heating and air conditioning box. Pull the blower motor down and out of the box.
5Set the new blower motor in the heating and air conditioning box and hand-tighten the three retaining bolts to 1 to 2 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench and socket.
6Route the wiring through the plastic wire retainers on the new blower motor, then plug the wiring harness into the blower motor.
7Reinstall the negative battery cable and tighten it to 11 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench and socket.
