The 1995 Ford Escort was manufactured with front rotors, which use friction against brake pads to stop the vehicle. These rotors can wear thin or become damaged from pitting or debris and will require replacement. The process includes the removal of the caliper, the pads and the rotor. Removal of a rotor can take the average backyard mechanic about thirty minutes.

Instructions

    1

Loosen the lug nuts on both front wheels. Lift the front of the Escort with the floor jack by placing the head of the jack under a frame rail and pumping the lever until one wheel is in the air. Place a jack stand near the jack head on the same frame rail and lift it to the proper height to support the car. Lower the jack, leaving the car resting on the stand, and move the jack to the opposite side of the car, repeating the process with another jack stand. The front of the car is now in the air, supported by jack stands.

    2

Remove the lug nuts on both front wheels and pull the wheels from the hubs. Set them aside, or tuck them under the car.

    3

Remove the calipers by turning the rear mount bolts counterclockwise, then sliding them off the rotors. Secure them to the control arm of the suspension with zip ties or string; do not allow the caliper to dangle from the brake line. At this point the pads will either fall right out or can be gently pried out with a screwdriver.

    4

Remove the rotors by turning the center axle nuts counterclockwise. Pull the rotors from the hubs, directly away from the axles. They can now be resurfaced or replaced.
