How to Change Disc Brakes on a 1965 Ford Falcon

The Falcon is one of Ford's great classics. According to Dearbornclassics.com, the original 1964 Mustang was composed mostly of design elements and chassis pieces of the Falcon. The 1965 Falcon was available as a two or four door hardtop. It had disc brakes on both the front and the rear, which made changing them rather simple right at home. With a jack and a tire iron handy, changing all four brakes takes about two hours.

Loosen all of the lug nuts with the tire iron two full rotations counterclockwise.

Place the jack underneath the axle and jack up the car until the tires have 2 inches of clearance from the ground. Set the jack stands underneath the axle. Remove the tire.

Remove the bolts from the caliper mounting bracket with the socket wrench. Tie the bracket to the car to prevent strain on the brake line. The brake line is the black hose protruding from the rear of the bracket.

Remove the brake pads from the bracket. The brake pads simply slip out of the bracket.

Compress the caliper. The caliper is the cylinder in the center of the bracket, and you can compress it by pressing it down by hand.

Install the new brake pads. They will slide into the same spot where the old ones were.

Rebolt the caliper mounting bracket to the rotor with the socket wrench. Put the tire back onto the rotor and lower the vehicle. Tighten the lug nuts with the tire iron.
