Windshield repair can be a complicated procedure, requiring an optically compatible bonding resin to fill and stabilize a large damaged area. Pinhead chip repair is altogether different. With a chip the size of a pinhead, there is no subsurface cracking, spider-webbing or severe damage to deal with. By following a few steps your repair will bring satisfactory results.

Instructions

    1

Clean the pinhead chip and surrounding area with alcohol. Examine the chip closely and make sure there is only a small, surface chip. If the vehicle is in a sunny spot, move it to a shaded area. Let the glass cool.

    2

Tape a piece of paper towel below the area to be repaired. This creates a dam to capture any runoff of glue that could harm the vehicle paint.

    3

Apply a drop or two of glue to fill the pinhead chip. Windshield rearview-mirror glue has a bonding agent in the package that must be applied first. Super Glue-type adhesives are applied directly to the area. Allow either product to set for several minutes before going on to the next step.

    4

Level the glue with a razor blade, carefully pulling it over the filled area. This will flatten the repair and make it more optically pleasing. Clean the entire glass, and finish the repair by coating the windshield with Rain X or an equivalent product that will fill surface abrasions.
