How to Smooth Windshield With Resin

Smooth out a newly repaired windshield with resin. Once the anaerobic resin has been cured over the break of a windshield, you need to use pit resin to smooth out the glass and make the windshield look as good as new.

Gather your tools. Have cellophane patches and a couple of resins, an anaerobic resin and a pit resin like Stone Chip or Chipfix, Inc. that work with ultraviolet light. You also need a UV light. Pull out a regular razor blade to scrape the glass and most importantly for windshield repair will be the bridge.

Understand the process of repairing a windshield of make of. Windshields have two layers of laminated glass. When a rock or something hits the windshield, air gets in between the two layers, which will make the break contract until you have a long crack across the windshield. When the resin is injected inside the break, the bridge fills up the cracks while at the same time it pulls out any air that has been caught between the glass layers.

Remove the Bridge from the windshield. Once you have drilled out the break and used the Bridge to inject the resin in and siphon the air out between the layers of glass and let that cure under a UV light, it's time to take the Bridge off. Unscrew the feet holding the Bridge to the glass so that the glass doesn't burst. Take off the Bridge.

Spread a little pit resin on a cellophane patch. The pit resin is the resin that resurfaces the top layer of glass. Place it over the top of where the break was. Watch and make sure it beads up and spreads out across the patch so there aren't any bubbles in it.

Let the pit resin cure for approximately five minutes under the ultraviolet light or out in the sun. Use the razor blade and scrape down any extra resin until it is nice and smooth. Now simply wipe the glass and polish it up.
