Honda automobiles are manufactured with rear disc brakes on some models. This hydraulic caliper, rotor and pad system can wear out and require the replacement of some parts to function correctly. This is not a very difficult fix, and the average backyard mechanic can replace the rear pads on a Honda in about an hour.

Instructions

    1

Raise the Honda at the rear wheel where the brake pads are to be replaced by positioning the jack head onto the frame rail and pumping the lever to get the wheel off of the ground.

    2

Remove the wheel by turning the lug nuts counterclockwise, then placing the wheel away from the car.

    3

Remove the caliper by turning the rear mount bolts in a counterclockwise direction, then sliding the caliper off of the rotor.

    4

Remove the pads from the caliper pistons by pulling them free, or prying them loose with a screwdriver. Dirt or debris can build up around the pistons, sticking the pads to them.

    5

Replace the pads with fresh units by pressing them into position onto the caliper pistons.

    6

Replace the caliper by sliding it onto the rotor, then turning its rear mount bolts clockwise until they are snug.

    7

Replace the wheel by turning the lug nuts clockwise, in an alternating pattern.

    8

Lower the Honda from the floor jack by turning the pressure screw on the jack base counterclockwise. Remove the jack.

    9

Repeat the entire process on the opposite brake.
