Make parking brake adjustments to your Mitsubishi Galant easily at home to save you time and money. Adjust the parking brake when your car starts to slip down the hill when in park position. Use the automatic adjuster mechanism to help you adjust your parking brake. These instructions are for the Mitsubishi Galant from 1994 to 2000.

Instructions

    1

Pull back the carpet around the floor of the center console. Locate this between the driver's seat and the front passenger seat.

    2

Loosen the adjuster nut with a wrench or pliers. Find the adjuster nut at the end of the parking cable rod sticking out of the back of the parking brake lever.

    3

Turn on your Mitsubishi Galant engine. Press down on the brake pedal five or six times. Verify that the tension does not change anymore when you push the brake pedal down. Pushing down on the brake makes the automatic adjuster mechanism work.

    4

Tighten the adjuster nut with your pliers or wrench. Pull up on your parking brake lever. It should take five to seven notches to reach the upward position.

    5

Raise your Mitsubishi Galant rear wheels in the air with the jack and support them with jack stands. Verify the rear wheels turn freely when the parking brake fully releases.
