Replacement Instructions for the Clutch Slave Cylinder on a 98 Saab

The clutch slave cylinder of your 1998 Saab is the connector between the vehicle's pedals and its transmission. If the clutch slave cylinder goes bad or is damaged in an accident, you may find that it is difficult to press down your Saab's clutch pedal. In this situation, the easiest solution is to replace the clutch slave cylinder. Although it is a complicated process that can take well over two hours to complete, it is also fairly straightforward.

Instructions

Lift up the hood of Saab and remove the negative cable from the battery with a socket wrench.

Place a jack underneath the Saab and raise it up. Support the front end of the Saab with jack stands.

Remove the bolts from the cover panel underneath the Saab's engine with a socket wrench.

Unplug the two wiring connectors revealed by removing the covering panel.

Remove the two bolts from the clutch slave cylinder, located on the transmission, near the rear of the engine compartment.

Pull off the hydraulic line from the slave cylinder.

Remove the two bolts securing the slave cylinder to the firewall. Pull it out of the vehicle.

Attach a replacement clutch slave cylinder to the firewall and reattach its bolts.

Reconnect the hydraulic line to the slave cylinder. Reattach its two bolts.

Reconnect the wiring connectors and reattach the cover panel.

Remove the jack stands and lower the Saab vehicle. Reconnect the battery.
