How to Change a Marker Bulb in an '01 Civic

The 2001 model year began the seventh generation for the Civic. Not only did the Civic receive a visual change-up for the 2001 model year, but it also received some significant mechanical changes, including better riding suspension, flat rear floorboards and a slightly larger engine. Part of the visual upgrades included all-new headlight and taillight fixtures. When replacing the marker lightbulb in the redesigned 2001 Civics headlight fixture, you must remove the front part of the wheel-well liner to gain access to it.

Instructions

    1

Start the Civics engine and turn the steering wheel to the right if you are changing the drivers side marker light, or to the left if you are changing the passengers side marker light. Turn off the engine.

    2

Follow the front-most part of the wheel-well liner upward until you find the push-pin-style retaining clip that locks it into place.

    3

Pry the pin in the center of the retaining clip outward with a flat-head screwdriver to unlock the retaining clip, then pry the retaining clip from the wheel-well liner.

    4

Pull the front-most part of the wheel-well liner back to expose the marker light and turn signal sockets. Twist the marker light socket -- the lowest socket -- a quarter-turn counter clockwise to unlock it. Pull the marker light socket from the headlight assembly.

    5

Pull the bulb from the marker light socket with a slight wiggling motion.

    6

Hold a new marker light with a clean, lint-free cloth and press it into the marker light socket. Do not touch the new bulb with your bare hands, as it may cause premature bulb failure.

    7

Guide the socket and new bulb into its hole on the headlight assembly and twist it clockwise a quarter turn to lock it into place.

    8

Position the front-most part of the wheel-well liner back into its original position. Insert the push-pin-style clip into its hole in the liner and press its center pin inward until it is even with the head of the clip
