The Tahoe came to existence in 1995, when Chevrolet dropped the S-10 tag from the compact Blazer and changed the name of the full-sized Blazer to the Tahoe. The 2000 model year brought about a redesign of the Tahoe, giving it smoother body-lines. The 2000 Tahoe came standard with an eight-speaker, AM-FM stereo system and had an optional cassette and CD player available. These stereos had a theft deterrent system, known as TheftLock. When the stereo loses its power source, this system prevents it from operating without a secret code. This keeps people from stealing the stereo from your Tahoe, but also means you need this code any time you replace the SUV's battery

Instructions

    1

Locate your three or four-digit radio code the dealership provided with the vehicle. If you do not have this code, find the closest dealership to obtain the radio code using the vehicle identification number.

    2

Turn the Tahoe's ignition to the "On" position, but don't start the vehicle. Observe as "LOC" appears on the radio's screen.

    3

Press the "MN" button on the radio and note that "000" or "0000" appears on the radio's screen. Press and release the "MN" button until the last two digits on the screen match the last two digits in the radio code provided by the dealership.

    4

Press and release the "HR" button on the radio until the first one or two digits -- depending on if your code is three or four digits long -- match the numbers on the code provided by the dealership.

    5

Press and release the "AM-FM" button to confirm the code you entered. If you enter the code correctly, "SEC" appears on the screen. If nothing shows on the screen, turn the ignition off and start the process over from Step 2.
