How to Replace a Radio in a 2007 Buick Lucerne

Through the early- and mid-2000s, Buick began phasing out its staple vehicles, like the Park Avenue, Century, LeSabre and Regal, in favor of more modern and stylish vehicles. One of these replacements was the Lucerne, which Buick released in 2006. The 2007 Lucerne came standard with an AM-FM, six-speaker stereo system that included a CD-player, but you could also opt for an MP3 player and a nine-speaker sound system. Replacing the 2007 Lucernes radio requires a visit to the dealership to have the replacement radio programmed to your vehicle.

Removal

Cover the metal end of a flat-head screwdriver with a thin coat of duct tape to protect the interior panels of the Lucerne.

Insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver under the radio bezel the trim surrounding the radio and HVAC controls and pry around the perimeter of the bezel to disengage its eight retaining clips. The bezel has three clips on each side and two on the bottom.

Pull the radio bezel off the dashboard.

Remove the three screws securing the HVAC controls to the dashboard with a ratchet and a 9/32-inch socket. Pull the HVAC controls from the dashboard and allow them to hang by their wiring, there is no need to disconnect them.

Use a ratchet and 9/32-inch socket to remove the four radio-retaining screws. Slide the radio from the dashboard just enough so you can access the wiring harness on the rear of it. Press and hold the unlocking button on the wiring harness and pull the harness from the radio. Unplug the antenna wire from the rear of the radio. Remove the radio from the Lucerne.

Installation

Plug the wiring harness and antenna wire into the rear of the radio. Slide the radio and wiring into the chassis in the dashboard and tighten the four radio-retaining screws to 18 foot-pounds with a torque wrench and 9/32-inch socket.

Reconnect the wiring harness to the rear of the HVAC controls and set the controls back on the dashboard. Tighten the HVAC controls to 9 foot-pounds with a torque wrench and 9/32-inch socket.

Line the clips on the rear of the radio bezel up with the slots around the radio and HVAC controls and press the bezel onto the dashboard until the clips engage.

Drive the Lucerne to a nearby Buick dealership to have the radio programmed to the vehicle, if you installed a replacement radio new or used. If you used the original radio, there is no need for the dealership to program it.
