Toyota has offered its customers a compact truck since it released the Stout in 1964, with the exception of one production lapse in 1968. In the full-size pickup realm, Toyota is relatively new, as its first entry into full-sized trucks was the 1993 T100. In 2000, Toyota beefed up its full-size truck offering by releasing the new V-8-powered Tundra. The 2007 Tundra came with a standard six-speaker stereo system in its higher trim levels, with two speakers mounted in the dashboard. Replacing the two dash-mounted speakers in the regular cab model requires removing the front door pillar trim panels, but it is a simple task overall.

Instructions

    1

Loosen the negative battery cable end with a combination wrench and pull the negative battery cable from the battery. Set the cable aside to prevent accidental reconnection.

    2

Pry the two bolt covers from the assist grip handle on the drivers side front door pillar trim, by sliding a flat-head screwdriver underneath each cover and lifting up. Use a ratchet and a socket to remove the two bolts securing the grips and pull the assist grip from the trim panel.

    3

Pry along the length of the windshield edge of the drivers side front door pillar trim with a flat-head screwdriver to disengage its retaining clips and claws. Do not pry on the door edge, as the curtain airbag is in this area and you do not want to damage it. Pivot the top of the trim downward to disengage the lower retaining hook and lift the trim to remove it.

    4

Repeat steps 2 and 3 to remove the passengers side front door pillar trim.

    5

Pry upward around the perimeter of the dash speaker cover with a flat-head screwdriver to disengage its four retaining clips. Pull the speaker cover from the dashboard. Repeat this step on the dash speaker cover on the other side of the dashboard.

    6

Remove the two bolts securing the dashboard speaker, using a ratchet and socket. Pull the speaker upward until you can access its wiring harness. Press and hold the unlocking button on the speakers wiring harness, and unplug the harness. Remove the speaker. Repeat this step to remove the speaker on the other side of the dashboard.

    7

Plug the wiring harness into the new dash speaker and set the speaker into its cavity in the dashboard, aligning its bolt holes with those in the dashboard. Thread the two dash speaker bolts by hand, then snug them with a ratchet and socket. Repeat this step on the speaker on the other side of the dashboard.

    8

Set the dash speaker cover over the Tundras speaker, aligning the covers retaining clips with the slots in the dashboard. Press down on the cover to engage the retaining clips. Repeat this step on the other speaker cover.

    9

Repeat steps 5 through 8 to remove and install the other dashboard speaker.

    10

Guide the hook at the base of the drivers side front door pillar trim into its slot in the edge of the dashboard. Pivot the trim upward to align its retaining clips with the slots in the front door pillar and press the trim onto the pillar to engage its retaining clips.

    11

Set the grip assist handle back onto the drivers side front door pillar trim and hand-thread its retaining bolts. Tighten the retaining bolts with a ratchet and socket, and press the bolt covers back over the bolts.

    12

Repeat steps 10 and 11 on to install the passengers side front door pillar trim and grip assist handle.

    13

Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery and tighten the cable end with a combination wrench. If your Tundra has navigation, proceed to the next step for the initialization process, necessary because of the battery disconnection.

    14

Turn the Tundras ignition to IG and insert the navigation system CD into the navigation system. From this point the navigation system will automatically initialize itself and alert you when it has finished. Eject the disc once initialization is complete.
