Kia introduced the Sorento crossover SUV for the 2002 model year. The second generation arrived for the 2009 model year, and 2011 brought with it three sub-models from the Korean automaker: the LX, EX and SX. Each of these sub-models shares a center console that houses the shifter assembly, cup holders and a storage compartment. Before working on the shifter or replacing the interior carpet, you must first remove the Kia Sorento's center console.

Instructions

Center Console Removal

    1

Pry the shifter assembly bezel off the center console, using the trim tool.

    2

Pry the console's rear cover off using the trim tool. Unplug the center console wiring connector from the rear of the console.

    3

Pry the extension side cover -- located on the front left side of the console near the gas pedal -- off the console, using the trim tool.

    4

Open the console storage compartment and remove the inner tray mat. Remove the three hex-head bolts from the bottom of the storage compartment, using a socket wrench and an 8 mm socket.

    5

Remove the four mounting screws from the lower sides of the center console, using a Phillips screwdriver. There is one screw on each side near the very front of the console, and one on each side near the very back.

    6

Lift the console out of the Sorento by hand.

Center Console Installation

    7

Place the center console into the Sorento, making sure not to set it down on the rear wiring harness. Screw the four side-mounting screws into the console, using the Phillips screwdriver.

    8

Screw the three hex-head bolts into the bottom of the center console storage compartment, using the socket wrench and an 8 mm socket. Lay the tray mat back into the bottom of the center console.

    9

Snap the extension side cover back onto the side of the center console. Plug the wiring harness into the center console wiring plug. Snap the rear cover onto the rear of the center console.

    10

Lay the shifter assembly bezel in place and push down gently until it snaps into position.
