The Suburban was first designed after a commercial cargo truck in 1936. It had two doors in the front and two in the rear with three rows of seats. A straight 6-cylinder engine with 90 horsepower was the only engine option. How to replace the gas cap on a 2007 Suburban is a legitimate question. The gas cap, like so many other things today, is made mostly of plastic. The fuel system in the Suburban is pressurized. Should the cap develop a crack it will release the vacuum in the tank, which, in turn, will cause the computer to set an emissions code and turn the check engine light on. This can also happen if the cap is not tight. In some cases the top of the cap breaks off, leaving the threaded portion in the filler neck.

Instructions

    1

Pry the plastic retainer strap carefully out of the groove in the gas cap. Once it is out, thread the cap counterclockwise out of the strap.

    2

Remove the gas cap. If the gas cap is broken, use the needle nose pliers to remove the threaded section of the cap from the filler neck.

    3

Thread the new cap on the retainer strap clockwise. Carefully pry the strap into the groove in the top of the gas cap using the small screwdriver.
