How to Remove a Cowl Vent Grille on a 1991 Mustang

The cowl vent grille on a Fox body 1991 Ford Mustang is made of plastic and tends to crack over time. It must be removed to gain access to the windshield wiper system. They also house the windshield washer nozzles. They are surprisingly inexpensive and easy to remove. Four specially made plastic trim fasteners and a series of screws secure the grill.

Open the hood. Remove the screws on the cowl vent grille ledge closest to the firewall using a socket driver.

Pry out the five trim fasteners carefully with the small screwdriver two on each side and one in the middle. Take care not to break them. Lift up the grill and pull the washer hoses off the squirters.

To install the grille, push the squirter hoses on the sprayers. Lay the grill in place and push the trim fasteners in until they snap in place. Install the front screws and tighten.
