Cadillac released the first vehicle to don the DeVille name in 1949. The DeVille name carried on for an impressive 56 years until the DTS replaced it in the 2006 model year. As expected of a high-luxury car, like the 2003 DeVille, it came standard with air conditioning. Also included was automatic temperature control, which used a dashboard-mounted digital interface, called the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning control module. Removing and replacing the HVAC control module is a relatively straightforward process, when considering the high-tech nature of the system.

Instructions

    1

Remove the center trim panel the trim panel surrounding the HVAC control module and radio by prying outward on the top of it with a flat-head screwdriver to disengage its upper retaining clips, then pulling rearward on the entire panel to disengage the remaining retaining clips. Set the center trim panel in a secure location.

    2

Squeeze the four locking tabs on the HVAC control module, one tab an each corner, and pull the panel rearward until you can access its wiring on the rear.

    3

Press and hold the unlocking button on each of the wiring harnesses on the rear of the HVAC control module, and unplug the harnesses. Remove the HVAC control module.

    4

Connect the wiring harnesses to their respective receptacles on the rear of the new HVAC control module.

    5

Guide the HVAC control module into its cavity in the dashboard and press it toward the dashboard firmly to engage its locking tabs.

    6

Align the retaining clips on the rear of the center trim panel with the slots in the center of the dashboard. Press the trim panel onto the dashboard until the retaining clips snap into place.

    7

Start the DeVille and allow it to idle for about one minute, so the new HVAC control module can calibrate. The LCD screen on the HVAC control module will prompt you when its completed its configuration process. Do not touch any of the buttons on the HVAC control module during this configuration, or it will interrupt the configuration process. At that point, you have to remove and reinstall the HVAC control module.

    8

    Shut the DeVilles engine off.
