The 4L60-E automatic transmission was manufactured by General Motors and has been used in various GMC, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and Pontiac vehicles since 1992. For the GM 4L60-E transmission to operate properly, it must first be wired to the vehicle's power source. Luckily, this is a fairly simple procedure that only requires that the vehicle be lifted and secured on jack stands. It should not take you more than 15 minutes to wire your GM 4L60-E transmission.

Instructions

    1

Open your GM vehicle's hood and unplug the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.

    2

Lift the GM vehicle with a jack and secure the front end of the vehicle on jack stands.

    3

Crawl underneath the vehicle and remove the air cleaner from the transmission with a socket wrench to remove its bolts.

    4

Squeeze the wiring harness on the transmission, located on the end of the transmission closest to the firewall, and pull it out. Perform any maintenance necessary on your 4L60-E transmission. When you are done, plug the wiring harness into the transmission until it clicks into place. This will wire the transmission.

    5

Reattach the air cleaner then raise the vehicle with the jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle and reattach the negative battery cable. Close the hood.
