Throughout the early ages of automobiles, most automakers offered headrests as an optional feature on their vehicles. This all changed in 1969, as a new law required all automakers to fit their vehicles with front headrests to protect drivers from whiplash and other head and neck injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. The headrests on the 2007 Silverado Classic are removable, but Chevy did not mount a button on the headrest retainer to unlock the headrest. This makes removing them a little tricky, unless you know where to look for the access holes to unlock the headrest retaining clips.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Lift the headrest up as far as it will go.
2Look on the innermost part of each headrest retainer, the plastic receptacles that the headrest posts go through, and find the small hole on each retainer.
3Straighten a paperclip and insert the paperclip into the hole on one headrest retainer until you feel the paperclip contact the retaining clips inside the headrest retainer. Press the paperclip inward to disengage the retaining clip and lift that side of the headrest up so it is free from the headrest retainer. Repeat this step on the other side of the headrest.
4Lift the headrest from its retainers.
Installation
- 5
Align the headrest posts with the holes in the headrest retainer.
6Press the headrest down firmly until it is in its full-down position.
7Lift the headrest to its full-up position to verify that the retaining clips engage and prevent the headrest from coming out of the retainers.
