The water pump is the heart of the Honda CRV's cooling system, circulating the coolant. A faulty water pump can cause some serious damage to the engine of your vehicle. To prolong the life of your engine, make sure to change out a bad water pump.
Instructions
2.0L CRV Engine

Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
2Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3Remove the accessory drive belts, the front cover and the timing belt.
4Loosen and remove the water pump bolts and remove the water pump from the engine. Make sure to take note where each bolt goes for reinstallation.
5Install the new water pump, inserting a new o-ring seal to the pump and tightening the bolts to 105 inch pounds (12Nm).
6Reinstall the timing belt and put the front cover back on and insert the accessory drive belts.
7Reattach the negative battery cable and refill the cooling system.
8Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
2.4L CRV Engine

Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.
10Disconnect the negative battery cable.
11Remove the accessory drive belts and the crankshaft pulley.
12Loosen and remove the 6 bolts to the water pump and remove the pump.
13Insert the new water pump with a new o-ring seals, tightening the bolts to 104 inch pounds (12 Nm).
14Reinstall the accessory drive belts and crankshaft pulley.
15Reattach the negative battery cable and refill the cooling system.
16Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
