The 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix was a sporty mid-sized car that could trace its roots back to the early 1960s, when the first Grand Prix had appeared in showrooms. Early models of the Grand Prix had glass sealed-beam headlights, which meant the entire headlight had to be replaced when one burned out. Luckily, the aerodynamic headlights on the 2005 Grand Prix have replaceable bulbs that can be replaced in just a few minutes.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood and locate the white plastic retaining clip on top of the headlight assembly that contains the bulb that needs replacement. Pull the retaining clip up halfway while pushing in on the headlight assembly. Align the square tab on the clip with the corresponding notch on the headlight assembly.

    2

Pull the headlight assembly straight out of the front of the car. Do not pull out too far, as the headlight and parking light wiring harnesses are still connected to the back side of the headlight.

    3

Locate the bulb retaining rings on the back side of the headlight assembly. Note that the inboard ring secures the high-beam bulb and the center ring holds the low-beam bulb in place. Turn the desired ring in a counterclockwise direction, one-quarter of a turn. Pull the bulb socket straight out of the back of the headlight.

    4

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and discard it. Grasp a new bulb by the plastic base and push it into the socket until it is fully seated.

    5

Push the bulb socket into the back of of the headlight and twist it in a clockwise direction until it locks into place. Push the headlight assembly back into its cavity on the front of the car. Push down on the white plastic retaining clip while pushing the headlight assembly rearward. Release the clip. Pull out on the headlight to ensure it is securely mounted. Close the hood.
