In 1951, Buick showed the world a new concept car, known as the LeSabre. This high-tech vehicle had options that seem advanced even by modern-day standards: aluminum and magnesium body panels, built-in hydraulic jacks and a rain-activated convertible top. The 1991 LeSabre was slightly less high-tech than its 1951 concept. The 1991 production year was the final year of the boxy body style, since in 1992 Buick completely redesigned the LeSabre. The 1991 model had square headlights and long, rectangular taillights. Replacing a brake light bulb in the taillight assembly of the 1991 LeSabre involves the removal of the rectangular taillight assembly.

Instructions

    1

Open the LeSabre's trunk and locate the plastic wing nut securing the carpeting behind the taillight assembly. Remove this wing nut and pull the carpeting down, exposing the remaining wing nuts holding the taillight assembly in place.

    2

Remove the remaining wing nuts securing the taillight assembly. Pull the taillight assembly from the rear of the LeSabre.

    3

Look on the rear of the taillight assembly to locate the bulb sockets. Press the locking tabs around the taillight socket and twist the socket counterclockwise to unlock it. Remove the taillight socket and bulb from the taillight assembly.

    4

Press down on the taillight bulb and twist it counterclockwise to unlock it from the taillight socket. Pull the bulb from the socket. Pay close attention to the positioning of the small tabs on the metal part of the bulb, as they are staggered, and you must position the new bulb the same way.

    5

Grab a new 2057 taillight bulb, using a clean, lint-free cloth, and press it into the socket with the tabs positioned the same way as the old bulb. Press downward and twist the bulb clockwise to lock it in place. Don't touch the bulb with your bare hands, as the oils from your hands may cause premature bulb failure.

    6

Set the taillight assembly back on the rear of the LeSabre and tighten the plastic wing nuts to secure it in place. Reposition the carpeting over the rear of the taillight assembly and tighten the wing nut to hold it in place.

    7

    Close the LeSabre's trunk.
