The Ford Contour was the midway entry between the Taurus and the Escort from the 1995 through the 2000 production years. The 1995 model year came in three trim levels: GL, LX and SE. The GL and LX model came fitted with a 2.0-liter engine that produced 125 horsepower. A cooling fan helped regulate the temperature of the engine. This fan used a relay to switch the electric fan motor on and off, as needed. When this relay fails, one of two things happens: The fan either constantly runs, or it never runs. Replacing the cooling fan relay on the 1995 Contour 2.0-liter does not require much mechanical knowledge to complete.
Instructions
- 1
Open the Contour's under-hood power distribution block -- the black box on the far driver's side of the engine compartment -- by pressing the locking tabs and pulling the lid off. Notice that the power distribution block has two halves: a front one and a rear one.
2Locate the cooling fan relay -- the relay in the top corner of the front half of the power distribution block. Grab the relay and pull it upward with a slight wiggling motion to remove it.
3Line the prongs on the new relay up with the receptacle in the power distribution block and press the relay into the receptacle.
4Set the lid on top of the junction block and press down until the tabs click into place.
