Because the radiator of the Oldsmobile Intrigue is exposed to extreme temperatures and fluctuations, it can occasionally develop cracks or become clogged to the point that the tank needs to be replaced. The Oldsmobile Intrigue radiator tank can be made of either metal or plastic and is attached to the vehicle frame with just a few parts, making replacement a job that you can do yourself in about 2 to 3 hours.

Instructions

Remove the Radiator

    1

Unfasten the negative battery cable of the Oldsmobile Intrigue from the battery post with an open-end wrench to avoid electric shock. Place a drain pan on the ground below the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator. The drain valve is on the passenger side of the radiator tank.

    2

Remove the cap from the top of the radiator tank, and disconnect the rubber coolant overflow hose from the top of the radiator. Take the cap off the top of the coolant overflow reservoir on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

    3

Open the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator with a pair of pliers, and let the fluid drain completely out of the radiator. Loosen the screw clamps on the top and bottom radiator hoses with a screwdriver, and pull the hoses off the radiator flanges.

    4

Unhook the electrical wiring plug on the electric cooling fan from the battery wire connector, and unfasten the cooling fan shroud from the radiator with a screwdriver. Remove the radiator mounting bolts that secure the radiator to the vehicle frame with a socket wrench.

    5

Lift the radiator out of the Oldsmobile Intrigue engine compartment, and set it out of the way.

Replace the Radiator

    6

Place the new radiator in the engine compartment just behind the front grill, and secure the tank with bolts to the vehicle frame. Attach the cooling fan shroud to the radiator with a screwdriver, and connect the electric fan plug to the battery wire connector.

    7

Slide the top and bottom radiator hoses onto the radiator flanges, and secure them with the screw clamps. Verify that the drain valve is closed, and fill the radiator with a mixture of half coolant and half water.

    8

Place the cap back on the coolant overflow reservoir, and attach the rubber coolant overflow hose to the top of the radiator. Put the radiator cap back on the top of the radiator.

    9

Fasten the negative battery cable of the Oldsmobile Intrigue to the battery post with the open-end wrench.
