In 2002, Dodge redesigned the Ram 1500. This redesign retained the "big-rig" look that made the Ram popular, but added more refined styling. The 2002 Ram 1500 came standard with a 215-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 engine. The largest engine available on the 2002 Ram 1500 was the 5.9-liter V-8 that produced 245 horsepower. The 2002 Ram 1500 came standard with air conditioning. The air-conditioner condenser fan lowers the temperature of the R134a refrigerant, turning it from a gas back to a liquid. Replacing this fan requires removal of the condenser.

Instructions

    1

Take the Ram 1500 to a certified air-conditioning specialist to have the R134a evacuated from the air-conditioning system.

    2

Disconnect the two air-conditioner lines plugging into the condenser, using a line wrench. Cover the ends of the lines with masking tape to prevent debris from entering the lines.

    3

Unplug the wiring harness from the rear of the air-conditioner condenser fan, by pressing the locking button and pulling the harness from the fan. Remove the two condenser-to-upper cross brace nuts, using a ratchet and socket. Pull the condenser and fan off the upper cross brace studs and out of the engine compartment.

    4

Set the condenser on a flat surface, with the fan facing you. Remove the four bolts holding the condenser fan to the condenser, using a ratchet and socket. Pull the condenser fan assembly from the condenser.

    5

Set the new condenser fan assembly on the condenser and tighten the four bolts, using a ratchet and socket.

    6

Set the condenser and fan assembly back in the Ram, guiding the dowel pins on the bottom of the condenser into the holes in the lower cross brace. Guide the condenser onto the studs on the upper cross brace and tighten the condenser-to-upper cross brace nuts to 4 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench and socket.

    7

Reinstall the air-conditioner lines on the condenser and tighten them with a line wrench.

    8

Plug the wiring harness into the receptacle on the condenser fan.

    9

Take the Ram to a certified air-conditioning technician and have the system filled with 26 oz. of R134a refrigerant.
