In 2004, Ford Motor Company offered the Taurus -- the staple of the company's sedan line since the mid-1980s -- with three variations of the 3.0-liter V-6 engine. The standard 3.0-liter, the Flex Fuel and the DOHC engines all emploed a computer controlled engine management system. This system relies on a mass air flow sensor to relay incoming air volume measurements to the powertrain control module so it can adjust the fuel accordingly. If the MAF sensor malfunctions there is no way to repair it, and you must replace it for your Taurus to return to trouble free operation.
Instructions
- 1
Shut the Taurus's engine off and open the hood. Unclip air cleaner assembly lid. Unplug the wiring connector from the side of the MAF sensor.
2Loosen the clamp holding the air cleaner assembly outlet tube to the MAF sensor using a screwdriver. Pull the air cleaner outlet tube off the MAF sensor. Pull the air cleaner lid out of the engine bay and set it aside.
3Loosen the clamp holding the MAF sensor to the engine intake using the screwdriver. Pull the old MAF sensor out of the engine bay and set it in the packaging of the new MAF sensor.
4Slide the new MAF onto the engine intake, with the airflow arrow aimed at the engine. Put the air cleaner lid back into place and latch it down.
5Slide the air cleaner outlet tube onto the new MAF sensor. Plug the wiring connector into the new MAF sensor. Tighten both clamps using the screwdriver.
6Visually inspect the MAF sensor connections to make sure no unmetered air can enter the Taurus's engine. Close the hood.
