The 2003 model year was midway through the Ford Taurus's fourth generation. Having long since cemented itself as Ford's top selling vehicle of all time, the four-door sedan was the centerpiece of Ford's car offerings for 2003. The passenger side of the Taurus had two windows, one in each door. If the window glass incurs a scratch deep enough to catch your fingernail on, suffers some other damage that makes it unsightly or unusable, you have no choice but to replace it.

Instructions

    1

Open the window. Pry the sail trim panel off the upper-leading edge of the door panel using a trim tool. This only applies to the front door; if you're working on the rear door, skip to Step 2.

    2

Remove the door panel retaining screws, located in the door pull cup, at the bottom of the door panel as well as the leading and trailing edges, using a Phillips screwdriver. Set all the screws in one place for easy retrieval when reinstalling the door panel.

    3

Unscrew the door lock knob by hand and set it with the screws. Slide the tip of the trim tool between the door panel and door. Pry the door trim pins loose around the perimeter of the panel with the trim tool.

    4

Pull the door panel off the door far enough to allow you to reach between the door panel and door. Unplug the window and lock switches, as well as the courtesy lamp wiring connector, if so equipped. Lift the door panel up and off the door to complete removal.

    5

Lift the window glass to the top of the window frame and secure it to the top of the frame with packing tape in several places to prevent it from falling down.

    6

Unbolt the window regulator from the window glass using a socket wrench and 10-mm socket. Carefully peel the tape off the glass with one hand while supporting the glass with the other.

    7

Tip the glass forward into the door and then lift it up and out through the outside of the window frame. Set the old glass down on a level surface where it won't incur damage.

    8

Slide the lower-leading edge of the new glass into the door through the outside of the window frame. Slide the entire new window into the door. Tilt the window upright and lift it to the top of the window frame.

    9

Tape the new window glass to the top of the window frame with packing tape to prevent it from falling into the door. Bolt the window regulator to the new window glass using a socket wrench and 10 mm socket.

    10

Remove the packing tape and lower the window down into the door. Slide the top of the door panel into the window well. Connect the wiring harnesses to the window switch, lock switch and courtesy light, if so equipped.

    11

Push the door panel onto the door to seat the trim pins. Reinstall the door panel retaining screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Thread the lock knob onto the door and reinstall the sail panel trim.
