Ford offered a completely redesigned F-150 for the 2004 model year, sold alongside the F-150 Heritage Edition, which was essentially a slightly altered 2003 model. By 2006, Ford no longer offered the Heritage, enabling the eleventh generation F-150 to stand on its own. On the 2006 F150, trim pins no longer anchored the redesigned door panels; instead, several retaining screws and tab-in-slot design were used to bind the panel to the inner door skin. Any interior door component repairs must begin with the door panel removal. This process should take anyone with some mechanical inclination roughly 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

Instructions

    1

Open the window on the F150's door that you wish to work on. Pry the bottom of the speaker cover, the window switch bezel and the inner door handle trim cover out of the door panel, using a trim tool to expose eight hex-head screws. Disconnect the window and lock switches from the door harness and set the bezel and switch assembly aside.

    2

Remove the screws that hold the speaker in place, using the socket wrench and 6-mm socket. Pull the speaker out and disconnect the speaker wiring harness. Set the speaker aside.

    3

Remove the two screws from the base of the door panel, using the socket wrench and 6-mm socket. Remove the screw located behind the switch bezel, using the wrench and a 10-mm socket. Remove the screws located behind the inner door handle, using the wrench and an 8-mm socket.

    4

Pry the inner door handle bezel out of the door panel with the trim tool. Lift the door panel up and off the door, guiding the inner door handle and bezel through the opening as you do so to complete the removal process.

    5

Guide the inner door handle and bezel through the opening of the door panel. Lower the F150's door panel onto the door, making sure the upper lip of the panel slides into the window well and the panel tabs slide into their respective holding slots.

    6

Snap the inner door handle and bezel into the door panel. Install the screws behind the inner door handle with the wrench and 8-mm socket. Install the lower door panel retaining screws with a 6-mm socket and wrench. Snap the inner door handle trim cover into place.

    7

Install the screws behind the switch bezel, using the wrench and 10-mm socket. Plug the window and lock switches into the door harness. Snap the switch bezel into the door panel.

    8

Connect the speaker to the speaker wiring harness. Slide the speaker into the door panel. Screw the speaker in with the socket wrench and 6-mm socket. Snap the speaker panel back into the door panel to complete the reinstallation.
