An overdrive switch allows you to control your Ford F-150's transmission through the use of a switch. When installed, an overdrive switch can greatly cut down on the fuel usage of your truck. If you have already installed your overdrive switch, you can wire it to your F-150 through the electrical wiring components of your vehicle's steering column using a wire tap connector. As the steering column already contains the proper wiring, you can remove the cover to access the components and wire them to the switch.
Instructions
- 1
Open the F-150's hood. With a socket wrench, disconnect the battery's negative terminal. Wait a few minutes so that the airbags can deflate.
2Remove the screws from the rear of the steering wheel using a Phillips screwdriver. Pry off the steering wheel cover with a flat-head screwdriver. Disconnect the airbag's electrical connector and remove the airbag.
3Remove the screws from both the upper and lower steering column covers. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off both of the covers.
4Disconnect the electrical wire connector of the ignition switch and place a wire tap connector onto it. Reconnect the ignition switch and overdrive switch to the connector.
5Reattach the covers and their screws. Reattach the airbag and the steering wheel cover. Reconnect the battery and close the F-150's hood.
