The Z31 is the third generation Z-car produced by Datsun/Nissan. In 1984, the Z-car was redesigned, and in 1985, Nissan dropped the Datsun name. The electrical connector for the mass air flow sensor, or MAF sensor, on the Nissan 300ZX Z31 may get dirt or oil in it, which makes a poor connection. You can clean the connector easily, though if the connector is loose, you need to replace it.
Instructions
- 1
Unplug the MAF sensor's electrical connector. Gently loosen any packed in dirt with the small screwdriver.
2Spray the connector with the electrical contact cleaner. Shake the liquid out of the connector. Spray the connector again, forcing the dirt out of the connector. If you have some particularly stubborn dirt, scrape it out with the small screwdriver or a corner of the shop rag, taking care not to bend any of the pins.
3Dry the connector off with a shop rag. Allow the connector to set for a half hour before plugging it in to ensure that the liquid completely dries.
4Plug in the electrical connector. Start the vehicle to ensure proper operation.
