How to Wire an XT5-3-D1

The model number XT5-3-D1 represents a high-intensity headlight lamp manufactured by Osram. Osram headlight lamps use patented XENARC technology in their headlamp bulbs. This technology creates a light arc between two electrodes that are hermetically sealed inside a small quartz crystal, as opposed to halogen bulbs which produce light from a wire filament. Advantages of Osram bulbs over halogen bulbs include a longer average lifetime for the bulb itself and improved visibility and safety.

Open the hood of the vehicle in which the XT5-3-D1 will be installed and then remove the negative battery cable with the socket set.

Reach into the engine compartment directly behind the headlight and grab the headlight assembly.

Twist the headlamp assembly to the left to unlock it and then pull out the assembly, which includes the wiring harness, to access the bulb.

Push the old bulb in slightly and then twist it to the left to take it out.

Trace the wiring on the old bulb socket back to its plastic wiring harness and unplug the harness by hand.

Plug the XT5-3-D1 wiring that runs from its bulb socket into the wiring harness.

Insert the new bulb and bulb assembly into the hole on the headlamp housing and twist it to the right to lock it into place. Replace the vehicle's negative battery cable using the socket set.
