The 1997 Jimmy is an SUV manufactured by the General Motors Corporation. The transmission used on the automatic Jimmy is the GM 4L60E, which includes four forward gears and has been used in various GMC vehicles since 1992. For the 4L60E to function properly, its electrical connector must be wired to the Jimmy. If you want to remove the transmission to repair or replace it, you will need to release its electrical connector. This can be done fairly quickly, although you will need to raise the Jimmy to access the 4L60E.

Instructions

    1

Park the Jimmy on a level, flat surface and turn off its engine.

    2

Pop the hood and, with a socket wrench, remove the battery's negative connection to disconnect the battery.

    3

Place a jack underneath the Jimmy and lift it up so you can go underneath the vehicle.

    4

Locate the transmission close to the firewall underneath the Jimmy.

    5

Remove the bolts from the securing panel on the transmission and pull off the panel to access the electrical connector. Push together the two plastic tabs on the connector and pull it away from the transmission to release the connection.
