The Dodge pickup water pump hose runs from the outlet port on the side of the pump to the bottom flange on the radiator. The water pump on the pickup is behind the radiator, with the cooling fan attached to the front of the pump. The water pump hose can occasionally develop a crack or hole due to extreme temperatures or weather conditions, requiring replacement. You can change the hose in about an hour.

Instructions

    1

Unfasten the negative battery cable of the Dodge pickup from the battery post with an open-end wrench to prevent electric shock while replacing the water pump hose. Place a drain pan under the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator.

    2

Remove the radiator cap from the top of the radiator tank and open the drain valve at the bottom of the tank with a pair of pliers to let the radiator coolant drain out. From underneath the vehicle, locate the water pump directly behind the cooling fan.

    3

Close the drain valve and move the drain pan underneath the water pump. With a screwdriver, loosen the screw clamp on the water pump hose and pry the hose off of the pump.

    4

Loosen the screw clamp on the other end of the hose, which is attached to the metal outlet flange on the bottom of the radiator. Pry the hose off the metal flange with the screwdriver and remove the screw clamps from both ends of the pump hose.

    5

Discard the old water pump hose and slide the metal screw clamps onto both ends of the new water pump hose. Attach one end of the hose to the metal flange on the bottom of the radiator and the other end to the outlet flange on the water pump.

    6

Secure the ends of the hose by sliding the screw clamps over the metal flanges about a half inch from the ends of the hose and tightening the clamps with a screwdriver. Fill the radiator tank with a mixture of half water and half coolant.

    7

Secure the radiator cap to the top of the radiator tank. Fasten the negative battery cable to the battery post of the Dodge pickup.
