The heater core in your Chevrolet Blazer is very similar to the radiator, except that it is much smaller. As the fluid passes through the tubes in the heater, it brings heat to the passenger compartment that is circulated using a blower system. If you do not flush the engine cooling system periodically, the heater core can become clogged. If it reaches that point, you will have to replace the heater core. Likewise, if your heater core deteriorates and begins to leak, you will need to replace it as well.

Instructions

    1

Open the valve on the bottom of the radiator and drain the engine coolant into the drain pan. Remove the negative cable from the battery using a wrench to loosen the terminal nut.

    2

Disconnect the heater hoses using the screwdriver to loosen the clamps where they connect at the firewall. Plug the heater core pipes with a rag or something similar to keep fluid from running onto the floor of your Blazer.

    3

Remove the screws from the heater core casing using a screwdriver and pull the cover out from under the dash. Remove the brackets from each side of the heater core using a wrench to remove the bolts. Pull the heater core down and out from under the dash.

    4

Put the new heater core in place of the old one. Secure the mounting brackets by tightening the bolts with the wrench. Replace the cover on the heater core casing and tighten the screws with the screwdriver.

    5

Refill the radiator and reservoir with engine coolant. Connect the battery terminal and tighten it with the wrench. Start the Blazer and check for leaks inside and out of the vehicle.
