The 1998 debut of the Envoy marked GMCs entry into the ultra-luxurious SUV market, as it had available options that a buyer could not get in the highest-level Jimmy. The Envoy saw a hiccup in 2001, as GMC dropped it from its lineup, but it returned in 2002 to replace the outdated Jimmy. The 2004 Envoy, which General Motors based on the same platform as the Chevy TrailBlazer, came standard with an AM-FM audio system with a CD player and had an optional cassette player available. Replacing the 2004 Envoys radio requires special care, as some of the screws holding the trim together are hidden under the carpeting.
