Automobile gasoline gauges are important because they tell you exactly how much gas you have in the tank. Gas gauges have several parts. The gauge itself, mounted in your dash board, is powered partly by a fuse. There is also a special sensor that essentially floats with the rise and fall of the gasoline levels inside your tank. This sensor, the fuel sending unit, then relays the information to your gas gauge to show how much fuel is left. If you need to install a new fuel sending unit, you must connect it to the gas gauge wiring to make it work. You can make this connection in minutes.

Instructions

    1

Pop the hood of your vehicle and use a wrench or ratchet set to remove the negative battery cable.

    2

Slide the jack underneath the side of the vehicle where the gas tank is. Jack the vehicle up and place two jack stands on that side, one in the front and one in the rear. Then lower the jack.

    3

Crawl beneath the vehicle and shine the flashlight around the gas tank until you see some wires running from it, and a plastic wiring harness that is not attached to anything.

    4

Shine the light toward the front of the bottom of the vehicle on the driver's side until you locate the other end of the plastic wiring harness. This end of the harness will not plug into anything either.

    5

Plug the two pieces of the wiring harness together.

    6

Reattach the negative battery cable and turn the key in the ignition to make sure the gas gauge is working.

    7

Jack the vehicle up, take out the jack stands and then lower it back down.
