The water pump in your 1994 Cadillac Deville is used to help keep the engine cool by transferring coolant from the radiator to the engine. If the water becomes damaged, it will result in the continuously overheating of the engine, which will eventually break down, costing you a considerable amount in repair costs. The best way to solve this problem is to replace the water pump as soon as you notice it may have become damaged. You can pick up a replacement water pump from a local or online parts supplier.

Instructions

    1

Open up the hood of your Cadillac Deville. Support the hood with the hood stand. Use a socket wrench to loosen the bolt on the negative battery terminal clamp. Pull the negative cable from the terminal.

    2

Move the drain pan underneath your radiator. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolt on the drain plug. Turn the bolt in a counterclockwise direction until it comes free from the radiator. Remove the plug and drain the coolant into the pan.

    3

Loosen the bolt on the lower radiator hose clamp. Remove the hose from the clamp and pull the hose away from the water pump. Remove the bolts attached to the front timing belt cover in order to gain access to the water pump.

    4

Remove the mounting bolts attached to the water pump and lift the water pump away from the engine. Place the new water pump in the same position as the old one and secure in place with the bolts to a torque of 18 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench.

    5

Move the front timing belt cover back in place and secure it by reattaching the mounting bolts. Connect the radiator hose back to the water pump and reattach the clamp onto the hose to fix it in place.

    6

Remove the cap from the top of the radiator. Fill the radiator with coolant. Reattach the cap once the radiator is full. Place the negative cable back on the battery terminal and secure with the clamp.
