How to Adjust the Parking Brake on a 2002 Chevrolet Venture

Adjust the parking brake on your 2002 Chevy Venture yourself and save time and money. You only need a couple of basic tools. The parking brake operates the rear brake shoes. You will know it's time to adjust the parking brake when you park downhill and engage it, but the vehicle slips forward.

Instructions

    1

Crawl under the Venture and look for the intersection of brake cables. Put vice grips on the housing around the rear cables to hold it in place.

    2

Find the rear cable coming out of the rear cable housing. Pull the cable until it becomes difficult but not impossible to pull.

    3

Turn the adjuster nut with a wrench. If the cable is too loose, tighten it by rotating the nut clockwise. Do the opposite if the cable is too tight. Remove all slack in the cable so you feel resistance.
