How to Replace Brake Lines in a Camaro

Your Camaro's brake lines can become worn and damaged over time. When this occurs, you must replace the lines immediately. Damp conditions can cause the lines to rust. This rust could create holes in the brake lines, causing them to eventually snap. If any rust is present on the brake lines, new lines should be installed right away to ensure your safety. Read your Camaro manual for brake line specifications.

Use the car jack to raise the Camaro off the floor. Place jack stands under the vehicle for added support.

Start at the master cylinder, located near the steering wheel, and remove the steel brake lines. Loosen the bolts connecting the brake lines to the connectors. Pull the brake lines out of the vehicle. Cover the connectors in rust penetrant. Use a wrench to remove the safety bolts from the connectors.

Replace each section of the brake line with the newly purchased line. Attach the new brake line to the connectors and tighten in place with the safety bolts. Ensure that each section is connected with two compression fittings. Remove the caps from the compression fittings and install them on the brake line. Use an open-end wrench to tighten the cap to the line.

Bleed the entire break system to remove air bubbles in the lines. Refill the master cylinder with brake fluid. Remove the bleed screw on the brake caliper. Insert the bleeding hose, and place the other end in a clear container. Press the brake pedal gently to bleed the brakes.

Check the brakes for any sign of leakage. Take the vehicle off the car jack and test the brakes properly in a secluded area. Ensure the brakes are working correctly before taking your Camaro out on a busy road.
